The most important part is to cook foods that are compatible.

The different types of food that we eat in each meal, based on these principles, also need to be compatible with each other for a good digestion to occur, and be able to nourish the organs. If we eat incompatible foods, those will delay digestion, that can cause bloating, diarrhea, and it can produce many other health problems, even obesity. Remember, when we eat; first we need to leave enough room for digestion, as well, for the stomach to move and mix the food with the enzymes, the gastric juices, second we have to chew the food thoroughly before swallowing to let foods start to be digested from mouth to the stomach, third we should avoid extreme hot and cold temperatures in food and beverages One of the worst digestive offenses is to drink ice water or other freezing cold fluids with meal.

There is so much to learn on these fascinating Oriental Medicine principles! If you want to know more on this type of nutrition, learn how to cook and eat the way our long living ancestors did, the Hoa Foundation is here to serve you. Devoted to educate people in this and other subjects, the Hoa Foundation will offer workshops and classes about proper nutrition and cooking, so please join us!

But what a better trial than to taste right now a delicious and nutritious meal prepared according to these ancient principles? Prior to coming, each one of you had selected a menu to benefit a specific organ in your body, maybe because you have a health concern or because you wanted to make that organ strong. It can be the heart, the liver, the kidneys, the lungs or the spleen. In front of you, you have your dinner, a special combination of four different foods that have a main leader component. The leader food is in charge, like a tourist guide, to take the nourishing energy, derived from the meal you are about to eat, to that specific organ and make it strong. Look at your plates and try to locate the leader food. I will give you a hint: it is the food in the plate that is more abundant...

Also... notice that even though we have five flavors corresponding to the five elements, you only have four in your plate. Why? Well, as we said before compatibility is the key when mixing the food. The one missing in your plate is incompatible with the leader food that will benefit the organ you selected, that's why it is not included. Fascinating, isn't it?
