Throughout the life of Dr. Hoa Nguyen and how he's shared much of his experience
and life stories to educate people about the mechanism of the body, how it
works, what makes the body become ill, and how his philosophy and unique triage
have a profound effect on the overall health of an individual and the healing
process begins.
Hoa Nguyen was born in Vietnam. At 11 years of age, he started studying
Chinese-Vietnamese medicine and acupuncture with his grandfather, who was
certified by the French government in Vietnam. Hoa also studied with other
Masters in different fields of healing, including Qigong and martial arts.
In 1967 Hoa joined the Army and was assigned to the American (23rd) Division,
one of the US Army units in Vietnam, up until 1972. Afterward, the American
Division withdrew, Hoa returned to the Vietnamese Army. While serving with the
US Army, Hoa teamed up with American doctors to treat the villagers in the
Medical Civic Action Programs (MEDCAPS) during the Vietnam War. Years later, Hoa
opened his first oriental medicine and acupuncture clinic in a Vietnamese
military installation to treat the soldiers and their families. In 1974, Hoa
opened an oriental medicine and acupuncture clinic and taught martial arts in a
province of Vietnam where he also served as executive officer of the Military
Police Garrison.
At the end of April 1975, after the Vietnam war was over Hoa became a prisoner
in a POW (prisoner of war) camp. During this time, he saved the life of two
fellow prisoners who had been pronounced dead by the medical doctors of the
camp. Soon afterward Hoa was assigned the position of Chief of the Aid Station
in the camp. One year later, Hoa was released from the POW camp after healing
many peculiar cases of patients including prisoners, villagers, officers, and
the camp commander.
Among the many contributions Dr. Hoa has made, one particular story to share
with you is the time he spent with American soldiers in Vietnam. A special
person who is not here with us today, the late honorable former Miami
Commissioner, Mr. Arthur E. Teele, Jr. wrote in his own words, a request to the
American Ambassador for Refugee Affairs to intercede for the release of Dr. Hoa
who was detained at that time in Hong Kong. Mr. Teele reminded the Ambassador
that Dr. Hoa served with him in Vietnam and how Dr. Hoa was largely responsible
for saving the lives of many people, including his own. Mr. Teele had sponsored
Dr. Hoa to immigrate to the U.S. and through his relentless efforts, obtained
the release of Dr. Hoa and that is how he is with us today.
With infinite patience and dedication, Dr. Hoa begins in each of us the process
of educating us so that we are better prepared to make the right choices in the
areas of nutrition, exercise, and well-being.
Dr. Hoa has followed a path to serve humanity in all possible ways. With great
generosity, he gives of himself and leads us on the way showing how by serving
others we become better human beings.
